A rotary gear pump is a type of positive displacement pump that uses two or more gears to move fluids or liquids. The gears rotate within a casing, creating a suction on one side of the pump, which draws in fluid, and then pushes the fluid out of the pump on the other side. Gear pumps are commonly used in hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, and in the transfer of fuel and other liquids.
Rotary Gear pumps can be classified into two types:
1. External gear pump: External gear pumps consist of two external gears that mesh together and rotate in opposite directions. The fluid is trapped between the gears and the casing, and then pushed out of the pump.
2. Internal gear pumps: Internal gear pumps, on the other hand, have an internal gear that rotates within a larger external gear. The fluid is drawn into the pump through the inlet port and then forced out through the outlet port.
Rotary Gear pumps are known for their compact design, high efficiency, and the ability to handle a range of fluid viscosities. They can pump viscous fluids at high pressures and are often used in industrial and automotive applications where precise fluid control is required. However, gear pumps are not suitable for pumping fluids with high solid content or abrasive fluids, as this can cause damage to the gears.
